Pet Peeve

December 27, 2008 at 9:01 pm (Uncategorized)

A pet peeve of mine is when I baby sit and the parent asks me if I have change when paying me.  It’s happened to me a couple times and it annoys me more and more each time it happens. Tonight the bill came out to $114 (which I don’t get all of).  She had a hundred dollar bill and a bunch of twenties.  She asked if I had change and I said no (I really didn’t, not that I would have said I did if I did).  So she went upstairs to see if her husband had change and came back and handed me $115!  If she would have just handed me the $115 to begin with and had never asked me if I had change, I would have walked away just fine.  But the fact that she could have just given me $120, but instead walked upstairs to get change, annoyed me.  What’s $5!?  I mean you are staying in a hotel that is AT LEAST $1,000 a night, you’re flying your sitter from New York out for the rest of the week, and you can’t just give me an extra $5!!!??  I mean really!  (Yes I know it’s only $5, and that $5 isn’t going to make a difference in my finances, but it’s the principle people!). Of course I didn’t say anything and just walked out shaking my head on the inside, wanting to scream.  I do have to admit though, they were a very nice family and their kids were very well behaved and I actually had a really fun time.  But $5!?  Come on!!

My Day Yesterday

December 18, 2008 at 10:54 am (Uncategorized)

So yesterday was a long and interesting day for me.  I went up north for a work Christmas party and it started at 6am, and for those of you who know me, know that that is an ungodly hour for me.  I think it should be a sin to be up that early (and yes I know it’s not really that early).  It was raining so I decided I should get ready quickly and leave a little early in case there was traffic.  There wasn’t.  Security was fast, and I sat and read for an hour.  I landed in Oakland about 9:45 and got picked up and went to the office and read some more.  Then we went to lunch.  The place was beautiful!  There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and we could see the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge.  Lunch was delicious; I had New York steak, because I now like steak (crazy, I know!).  After lunch we went back to the office and I read some more.  Then I went back to the airport and that’s when the day took a downward turn.  Security didn’t take long but when I got to my gate, my flight was delayed an hour and 15 minutes.  Bummer!  But what are you gonna do, so I sat down and read some more.  Then they announced that my flight was cancelled altogether!  What the heck was I supposed to do!?  I’ve never had a flight cancelled before.  I got in a long line for customer service and thought out all the possibilities.  There was a flight at 8:50 into Orange County, but there were a lot of people in front of me.  Then I thought, okay well I could fly into LAX or Ontario.  But my car was at Orange County and who would pick me up that late?  My mom!  I called her and she said no!!  Okay not really, because she would never do that, but she made it quite clear that she didn’t want to pick me up.  So after waiting an hour in line, thinking of all the terrible things that could go wrong, I was able to get on the 8:50 flight.  Most of the people in front of me were for the Las Vegas flights that had been cancelled because of snow.  It was funny standing in line because the 7:30 flight (mine was supposed to be at 6:30) got cancelled too, but not until 7:30, when I had already been in line for 30 minutes.  They all ran (and we’re talking 30 people!) to the customer service desk when they announced it and were pissed that the line was so long.  There were a couple people who tried to buy places in line!  I was thankful when I got my boarding pass and went to my gate and read some more.  I finally landed in Orange County at 10:15 and got home around 11.  It was a fun but long day, and I’m just thankful I didn’t have to fly into another airport!

My new coat and scarf kept me warm in the coldness!
